Wesley Hills Needs Your Help

We Need You

The Village is looking for a few good people who want to serve on our Boards and Committees!

Wesley Hills has two standing citizen boards (Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals) that are staffed by your neighbors who volunteer their time to help the Village deal with various land use issues.  On occasion positions on these boards become open and, as Mayor, I look to appoint residents to these boards who represent diverse opinions, but are willing to work together to find solutions.

No specific experience is required to serve, just an eagerness to take part to help shape the future of our Village, and a commitment to putting in the time.  The Boards are assisted by professionals (Attorneys, Engineers and Planning Consultants) who answer questions and provide advice as part of the decision process.  Board members receive a small quarterly stipend for their work.

The boards do not require a major time committment.  Both boards generally meet once a month on Wednesday evenings.  Board members are expected to attend most meetings, be prepared to ask questions, and attend 4 hours of training annually (there are many opportunities offered each year in Rockland County to attend sessions [usually held in the evening] at no cost that satisfy the training requirement).  Occasionally the board make site visits.

The Zoning Board is charged with the responsibility of deciding whether or not to grant applications for variances to the Village’s Zoning Law.

The Planning Board considers applications related to site plans, special use permits (neighborhood gatherings, schools, home businesses, cell towers…), wetlands permits, changes to lot lines, subdivisions, and clearing excavation and filling permits.

If you are interested in being considered for a position on one of our citizen boards when positions become available, please send me an email to the Village Clerk at villageclerk@wesleyhills.org and ask her to arrange an appointment for you to meet with me.

The last time  I sent out this message was several years ago.  If you expressed interest and met with me at that time, please let me know if you are still interested.

Best regards,

Marshall Katz, Mayor
