How do I prevent a False Fire Alarm activation?
- Make sure your fire alarm system is ‘off line’ with your alarm company before testing it.
- Have your fire alarm system tested/inspected annually by your alarm company.
- Make sure your fire alarm system is taken ‘off line’ when doing any type of construction work in your home. Smoke detectors are very sensitive and can be activated by dust, dirt, sanding and cutting. Smoke detectors must be covered to prevent contaminants from getting into them during construction. If they are contaminated they will be less effective.
- Smoke detectors are very sensitive and can be activated by steam (shower, cooking). If your detector is too close to the bathroom or kitchen, have it relocated further away. There are some detectors on the market that are made for kitchen use.
