Community Solar For Wesley Hills
The Village of Wesley Hills continues to work hard for our residents to find ways for them to save money on their energy bills. Working with our consultant, Good Energy, last July we kicked off our Community Aggregation Program (CCA) for electricity. More than half of our residents are enrolled in the program paying a fixed rate of 6.879 ¢/kWh. The Village and Good Energy are also working towards introducing the first CCA for natural gas in New York State.
Today I am pleased to announce that Wesley Hills is endorsing a Community Solar Program offered by Good Energy in partnership with Nexamp that may allow subscribers to save up to 10% on their electricity costs.
Nexamp, is constructing a community solar farm in nearby Orange County which is going live in 2021. This solar farm is part of New York’s Community Solar Program, which allows residents to subscribe to a share of a local solar farm and go solar, without rooftop panels. Subscribers receive credits on their electrical utility bill for the energy produced by their solar farm share. Nexamp provides these credits at a 10% discount, allowing subscribers to save up to 10% on their electricity costs.
Community solar is compatible with our Village CCA program. If you sign up, you will continue to be an Orange & Rockland customer. There is no upfront cost and no long-term commitment – you can cancel your community solar share with no penalties.
The Village will receive a $50 donation from Nexamp for every resident who signs up for community solar. The Village Board has designated these funds to be used for a future environmental or beautification project in the Village.
Nexamp will soon be sending a letter to all Village residents concerning their project. In the near future Good Energy and Nexamp will host an information session at Village Hall.
