Bonfires & Burn Permit Applications

The Jewish Holiday of Lag BaOmer begins Monday evening, May 11th.  As part of the celebration, some people will be having parties with bonfires on Monday or Tuesday evening.

The Village code requires a Burn Permit for such fires.  The Village will accept permit applications until 4:00pm, Thursday, May 7th.  There is no charge for a Burn Permit.  To download a Burn Permit, click here.  Due to the pandemic, and the State restrictions on gatherings only those people living at the location the permit is issued to are allowed to attend the gathering at that location.

I would also like to ask all celebrants to respect their neighbors, as this is a week night.  Please note that the Village's noise law specifically addresses the use of sound systems and prohibits their use after 10:00pm.  To review the noise law, click here.

Bears & Other Wildlife

Spring is here and with it comes bears, coyotes and foxes.  I have heard from residents that these animals have been making their visits to the Village recently.  Please keep an eye out when your children or pets are outside.  For further information I refer you to this email which was sent out in the past https://www.wesleyhills.org/home/news/bears-and-coyotes-wesley-hills.

Recycling of Cardboard Boxes

In my walks around the Village for exercise during the pandemic, I often see many discarded cardboard boxes that litter our neighborhood.  To keep our Village beautiful and show respect for your neighbors please keep in mind the following:

  • Cardboard boxes are only picked up on Wednesdays.  Many people put them out with the Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday trash pickup and as a result they remain out for days and are often strewn about when it gets windy.
  • Cardboard boxes should be flatted, and secured, not left intact and loose.  Un-flattened cardboard slows down the collection process and the boxes are more easily thrown about by the wind.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Best regards,

Marshall Katz, Mayor
